NEW YORK, November 19, 2018 – Fred Alger Management, Inc. (“Alger) is pleased to announce that Amy Y. Zhang, CFA, has been awarded “The Mulan Award” by The Mulan Club, a New York-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, enabling and inspiring successful Asian women. The award was presented at The Mulan Club’s 2018 Anniversary Celebration on Friday, November 16 in New York. “It’s an honor to be recognized by The Mulan Club and to receive this accolade. The organization’s mission of encouraging professional women of Asian heritage is one that I deeply identify with as a woman of Chinese descent,” said Ms. Zhang, a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Alger. “I’ve been a member since 2017 and I look forward to being a part of the organization’s continued success supporting Asian women through education, culture and philanthropy.” In addition to being a member of the Mulan Club, Ms. Zhang is involved with the Asian Financial Society (AFS) and in July, she presented at two segments of the organizations Career Development Program for female professionals. Ms. Zhang also founded the AYZ STEM scholarship at her alma mater, Manhattanville College, in 2015 to benefit female students who choose to pursue degrees in STEM-related fields. Through the scholarship, Ms. Zhang has ensured that female recipients (one per year) have had access to funding for equal educational opportunities, allowing them to work toward future careers in industries that have been traditionally dominated by men. “In the three plus years that I’ve had the pleasure of working with Amy, she has demonstrated time and time again an unparalleled level of passion for her work as a portfolio manager. She is a leader to others within our organization and is an active, contributing member of the growing community of women in asset management, all while juggling her roles of portfolio manager, wife, mother, and mentor.” said Dan Chung, CEO and CIO of Alger. “This award is a testament not only to Amy’s performance but her leadership in the community to encourage and enable women in their professional endeavors.” Ms. Zhang earned her B.A. from Manhattanville College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She earned her M.B.A. from Columbia Business School, where she was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. She is also a member of the Columbia Business School Ambassadors Program. Amy is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute. She is a former President of the CFA Society Baltimore and is currently chair of their Advisory Board. She also served as a member on the Board of Directors, as well as Vice President and Programs Chair for the CFA Society of Stamford.
